Most cultures place a high premium on love, romance, and intimacy, leaving most of the human race daydreaming about their future partner(s) from a very young age. These daydreams can range from benign wonderings about a partner's hair color or hobbies to more salacious questions about what type of love they will be. While most people find the process of fantasizing about connection, pleasure, and passion exciting and arousing, those who have experienced sexual trauma and abuse may instead be overcome with grief, pain, or fear.
One of the most challenging parts about healing psychic wounds is that people tend to lack both the knowledge of how trauma can impact the mind, and the communication skills necessary to confront triggers in the moment. This can lead to dissociation, disconnection or re-traumatization. But what if you could, not only understand the ways traumatic events may have taken root in your mind, but also advocate about triggers to your partner(s) when they come up?
The purpose of this workshop is for survivors and allies to learn the cultural implications that impact recovery, the basics of uncoupling traumatic events from safe and healthy intimacy, and strategies for self- and co-regulation.

For better or worse, culture has come quite a long way when it comes to the "birds and the bees". What was once a conversation parents could easily shrug off for 12-15 years may now come up casually at a 4-year old's birthday party. When it comes to developmental conversations, children look to their adults as experts and are relying on trustworthy and honest answers to their questions. Unfortunately, most parents were never given the field guide for the kinds of questions they are being asked these days.

You will be encouraged to consider barriers preventing proactive communication in your family and ways to overcome them. And most importantly, you will walk away with a developmental field guide that is age-appropriate, research-based, and full of resources so you can shift a panicked, "I have no idea" into a confident, "Let's go find the answer together"!

Historically, peoples' views of sex have largely been centered around being "good" at sex, which often results in a "pass or fail" mentality. Questions like, "did they finish?" and "am I good in bed?" tend to come up at the end of sex, resulting in awkward communication and reassurances that fall on deaf ears?
But what if sex was play-based instead? Inherently, sex can be weird, awkward, funny, and even "gross".
